About Us!
Route 66 is a family owned and operated business. The Reece family purchased Route 66 Restaurant in 2005, however the family has been in the restaurant business for over 30 years. Route 66 was operated by Terry and Sherry Reece for five years, before turning it over to son Mathew in 2009. Sherry's parents Ed and Eileen Branch opened the Colonels Restaurant and Bakery back in 1974. In 1984 they opened the Seafood Ketch in Bass Harbor and turned the Colonels over to Terry and Sherry, who ran the business for 20 years before handing down the family tradition to son Mark and wife Stephanie.
History of Route 66 !
Route
66 was built in 1986 when the original building (formely The Brick Oven) was severely damaged
by fire. Some of the unique features came from an old church in East
Vassalboro, Maine. The collecting began then and took 13 years to complete.
There is a large collection of metal toys and lionel trains. Tin and
neon signs decorate the walls. Antiques and memorabilia are displayed
everywhere. This is the largest restaurant museum on the island and
maybe in the state. You are cordially invited to dine and reminisce
with us. Don't forget your camera as picture taking is allowed.
